I recently a few days ago lost my Tinker that I got several weeks ago and yesterday bought the Tinker Small!I watched the original Macgyver episode Deathlock and Macgyver had the Tinker Small and it's an awesome knife!!I'm just like Macgyver I can fix anything and the Tinker Small is an awesome everyday carry and fits easily in my pocket and very light and with the Tinker Small you can not go wrong!!

Excellent EDC!!

Hatte schon immer Messer aus dem Hause Victorinox, von klein bis groß war alles dabei. Man hat eben immer eine kleine Werkstatt mit dabei. Autoblinker wechseln, überstehende Schnur abschneiden, Flasche öffnen, Loch bohren...
Das Messer ist auf jedenfall mehrmals täglich ein guter Helfer im Taschenformat.

Schweizer Qualität eben

Wie ich es von Victorinox gewohnt bin ist auch dieses Messer top verarbeitet.
Durch die kompakte Bauweise lässt es sich optimal auch in kleinen Taschen z.B. bei Anzügen verstauen. Es klappert oder wackelt nichts und die Klinge ist scharf wie ein Rasiermesser. Die Größe ist gerade noch so das man gut damit arbeiten kann.

Super handliches Messer in guter Qualität

Ich habe lange nach einem kleinen aber gut handhabbaren Messer für die Hosentasche gesucht. Das Tinker klein, kommt der Perfektion schon recht nahe. Nicht zu groß, nicht zu klein, noch relativ schmal und leicht. Auf die kleine Klinge könnte ich noch verzichten, nicht jedoch auf die Bohrahle und die 3 Schraubendreher, wobei der Kreuzschlitz-Schraubendreher etwas besser aretieren könnte. Der Dosenöffner funktioniert, wird heutzutage aber nur noch sehr selten gebraucht. Statt der kleinen Klinge würde ich eine Nagelschere vorziehen, dann könnte ich auf das Rambler als Ergänzung für die Nagelpflegeverzichten. Nicht verzichten möchte ich auf die Pinzette und den Zahnstocher. Insgesamt ein super Messer, das ich bei fast allen Gelegnheiten dabei habe. Hervorzuheben wäre noch das gute Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. Die hervorragende Verarbeitung und Materialqualität verstehen sich bei Victorinox von selbst.

Bei dieser Grösse ist der Büchsenöffner nicht sehr passend. Dann lieber einen Imbus mit einer gängigen Grösse für viel verwendete Schrauben an Langlaufskiern, Fahrrädern usw. Vielleicht kann man die Grösse personalisiert bestellen (Auswahl). 
Und verwenden Sie doch vermehrt die Wengergriffschalen. Die geben Sicherheit.

Super Qualität, etwas traditionel

You can’t beat an 84 mm Swiss Army knife. Specially this one. Mine is from the 1970’s, with no sewing eye in the awl, no half stop on the cap lifter and it has a can key built into the Phillips screwdriver. But, otherwise, it’s the same as what you get nowadays. And it’s still going. Those two knife blades are pretty much perfect. The larger one it great for foodstuff, peeling fruit and veggies, cutting cheese and whatnot. The small pen blade is like a scalpel! Great for delicate tasks like whittling, modelling, etc. When they finally dull a little bit, it’s as easy as a quick strop on an old leather belt, and it’s shaving sharp again. I love the other tool layer, too. I can open cans, bottles and paint cans, turn screws, bend and strip wires, do light prying and so much more! The backside Phillips driver is perfect for taking apart devices and getting into the average gear. The awl/reamer/punch is an under appreciated tool by many. Drill and ream holes in wood, plastic, leather, etc. Use it as a pick, a scraper, a sewing needle, etc. I’ve even put holes in the lids of my iced tea bottles to make sippy cups so I can stay hydrated in my boat! Such a useful tool. Round all that out with toothpick and tweezers, and you have yourself a good reliable friend that can get you into and out of a lot of situations. Tinker away!

Release your inner MacGyver.

Every few years my current EDC goes AWOL.  The pattern has been Tinker-Something New and Shiney-Tinker-repeat.  I started with a Tinker, and to the Tinker I return. The anox was too stiff, the Centurian (which I still have) is great for camping but too big for an EDC, and others have had their own shortcomings.

Today I got my Tinker Small, and discovered what I've been looking for: just enough smaller that it's a better EDC without sacrificing anything that makes the Tinker such a useful companion.

Perfect EDC

For me, the whole point of a Swiss Army Knife is to have as many useful tools in as small a package as possible. That excludes models like the Swiss Champ which are too big and the Classic SD which is somewhat lacking. My ideal is a model like the Ranger, with a nice balance of the two factors and can be easily carried in an EDC kit or pocket.

However, there are also times when I'll want to scale down my EDC, which includes the knife, and for that I turn to my Tinker (small). It has all the basic essentials, including tools that can be turned to uses other than just what they're described as, in a package small enough to fit my wallet-sized micro-EDC organiser or even any pocket, without being noticed. If only they'd make smartphones this pocket-friendly!
It's also one of the few models still to feature the classic style Phillips screwdriver, which really comes in handy and works far better on old, abused or rusty screws than the modern 2D style featured on some well-known multitool brands.

Besides, as other reviewers have noted, the Tinker is a necessity for any MacGyver fans, along with duck tape and a paperclip. Some of the MacGyver fan sites have even done a breakdown of which SAK models are used in which episodes... and the Tinker range are by far the most commonly featured. Embrace your inner fanboy!

Build quality is top notch Victorinox quality, as expected - From every possible angle, it's an absolute no-brainer!

Pocket-sized Perfection

Super couteau de 84 mm, encombrement réduit, possédant tout ce qui est nécessaire. En fait c'est un "petit" Spartan avec un tournevis cruciforme à la place du tire-bouchon . Son grand frère est le Tinker qui, lui, fait 91 mm.

My wife just ordered me the Tinker Small today for my Christmas gift.I have the big Tinker and Climber and wooden handled Spartan just like the SAK'S MacGyver has and this new one I'm getting will fit perfectly in my pocket and quick to get to in moments notice and I'm just like MacGyver can fix and make anything and The Tinker Small will be the perfect tool for my everyday use and will get me out of sticky situations!

Mi è stato regalato da un amico scomparso nel 1994 con il mio nome inciso per una vittoria sportiva. Per me ha un valore affettivo e lo tengo in collezione senza usarlo. 
Comunque, non mi serve la lama piccola, preferirei la limetta per unghie.
Il cacciavite a croce è utile ma personalmente, per il mio stile di vita, preferisco il cavaturaccioli.
Nel complesso un buon coltellino, piccolo, compatto e leggero.

Compatto e portabile

Ce petit suisse a tous fait couper des bouts de ficelle , tailler du bois , des petits dépannages .....
Et au bout d'une vingtaine d'année et quelques traces d'usures , il est toujours efficace .

For a while I've been thinking about the Tinker. But I pick the smaller one because I never bought the 84 mm series. So hard to find it brand new in box here.

Then I bought a used one, give it a new pair of scales, sharpened it and give it Victorinox oil.

After a few days of use, I feel this SAK suits my need. Small but capable and perfect to pair with a plier based MT like the Spirit. If only it got scissors, I will give a five stars.

this knife is very usefull because its comes in very handy and its real strong an it fit the pocket very easy i have one for 3 years and never had a problem. with a star and flat screw driver comes in real handy.

I purchased this model in 2003 while visiting friends in Germany.I have carried it all across this world of ours. I even took it to Afghanistan during my deployment there. It's a great knife for keeping in your front pocket. I've used it many times to fix small things that needed a quick fix. I lost my first one at a recycling plant this year. It had lots of history with me. I replaced it with another small tinker a short time later. I had to. I felt naked without it. It's strange how you can become attached to one of these things. I take it with me wherever I go.

Perfect for the front pocket !

I carried a Small Tinker for 20 years until I wore out the blades. That was 17 years ago. Production was stopped and I searched and searched to find a suitable replacement over the years. A couple came close, but when I found out recently it was back in production I had to get one. It fits in the front pocket better than the full sized Tinker. It is light enough so that you don't really feel it there. It's comfortable. It has daily usable features. You really can "crank" on Phillips head screws without concern, because of the T handle set up. It is the Best all around knife for pocket carry I've had in the past 42 years. I hope to carry this one for another 20 years or more.

Great size, fits any pocket and packed with functionality, great tool choice for a very affordable price, perfect knife for newcomers, for travelling and everyday use.
Very light and thin, because of the 84mm length you may not get the best grip when using the screwdrivers, but its very compact and one of my favourite Victorinox.
Same quality and tools as on the big tinker, i had both in my hand when i was shopping and choose this one for the lovely handy size.
It easily fits the pocket pouch no. 4.0636 small leather pouch i bought for it too.
If you are looking for a useful compact pocket multitool that can discretely fit any pocket, then this is one for you

Best small all-arounder

This is a superb knife. I have many Victorinox knives and this is the workhorse I use the most. I like the smaller size, yet it has all of the tools of the regular Tinker. It is a great knife to carry. The Small Tinker is a perfect introductory knife for a young person's first. It is small enough, but has enough tools to make it truly handy. It was good enough for MacGyver to use on the TV series and it is good enough for anyone.

Great little tool

If you are a fan of the tinker than this is a great knife. I unfortunately lost mine but it was great for the small things around the house that needed work.

Great portability

This was my first official Swiss Army Knife. I received it as a gift as a child of probably 10 years old. I carried it for years and years, until I finally lost it. Victorinox stopped making the small one for a while and made only the larger one. The larger one does not fit in a pocket as comfortably; it is just a slight bit too long.

This one is just perfect. The only thing I missed on it was scissors. However, I made sure the small knife blade was as sharp as a razor, so it could do the same thing in a pinch!

The main blade is the do-it-all blade. It can get used without worry, because there is always the back-up small blade when I really need a sharp one. I don't abuse the main one, but sometimes, it is gummed up with glue from packing tape; from opening packages.

The bottle opener does open the occasional bottle of beer, but I use it far more often as a screwdriver and light-duty pry bar. The can opener works well of course, but the small flat head screwdriver tip also fits #2 phllips heads screws, once I have broken them loose with the T-handle phillips on the back.

The reamer with sewing eye is useful not only to poke extra holes in my belt, for that perfect fit, but also as a general use scraper (it has a sharp edge) and sharp tool to pick and pry with, without abusing the knife blades.

I never use the key ring on mine, and I find that it makes the knife less comfortable for pocket carry. So the first thing I do with these pocket-sized Swiss Army Knives is to remove the split ring and grind down the nub that holds it. Big improvement in pocket comfort.

If you like this model, but decide that you could give up the dedicated can opener and small blade for a scissors, take a look at the Compact.
