This is my first SAK and is totally worth the 57€!!!! Blade is sharp, scissors are great quality, as is everything on the knife.

Amazing EDC

I got this lil but big in the same time Pioneer X about a week ago. It is victorinox and that usually means quality and ergonomics with a long history. I have only one thing that could be improved by the design team for next generation of Pioneer X Alox and I wish there was a way to upload pictures in this review to show exactly what I mean. 
So, the heads of the rivets that keep together all the parts, are staying on top of the alox 3d squared texture of the scales. The design team did not designed the scales like they did with the Hunter Pro Alox to remove few of the textured squares around the heads of rivets and give the chance to those heads to be fully on a flat surface of the aluminum scales. Instead in the Pioneer X Alox case the rivets heads are on top of the 3D alox texture, leaving a lot of open space under the heads where dirt will be deposited in time during use. You are actually able to place you nail under them which should not be the case. One of the heads is strangely even higher than the others. I can send pictures to a Victorinox representative if requested. 
Overall this is a great knife but this issue in the design process was something that Victorinox missed before they put this knife in production and because of that unfortunately I can’t say this is a perfect pocket knife.

Solid, Ergonomic, Slick

Moden take on the army knife, very well made nice feel in the hand will last for a lifetime, deserves a leather slip pouch, mine is swade keeps it like new, dependable stylish and strong, a true friend in your pocket. 
Only small point the keyring I don't like it, I know that some people love it.
Please can this be a option ,on all the pioneer range as it's a love hate thing. The army versions don't have one and are better for it, the feel in the hand will tell you that the keyring isn't right, try it out no keyring it feels smouth and flows round in the fingers ,no sharp edges great style, try with the keyring and bang you're fingers hits the pertruding stub, I have the electrician  model with out a keyring it feels so right, I do appreciate that this is a personal choice but make it a option and a lot of people will be very grateful and apprehensive , still a great knife.

Love this piece, it’s my everyday carry and the added benefit the scissors give you on this X model over the standard Pioneer is immeasurable. 

Had been waiting a long time for them to release this and have not been disappointed

Parfait

With the scissors in an Alox package, the Pioneer X is nearly perfect.  I can cut (gross work with the blade) and then cut with extreme precision (scissors).  Add a Phillips and the Pioneer Xp (Philips) will be perfection.

Ich habe das Messer jeden Tag bei mir. Es hat mir schon in vielen Situationen gute Dienste geleistet.
Besonders mag ich, dass die Aluschalen robuster sind als die Kunststoffschalen der "normalen" Taschenmesser. Auch die Klinge ist grösser.

Die Alox-Messer sind bei vielen Sammlern begehrt.

Mit dem Pioneer X wurde dann auch die Lücke geschlossen, dass diese Serie endlich wieder mit einer Schere ausgestattet wurde.

Dann gerade im Alltag sind neben Klinge und Kapselheber eine solche unverzichtbar! 

Einziges Manko: Für einen "uralt" Victorinox-Benutzer ist der Nagelhau an der Schere, der gegenüber den 91-er Modellen auf der anderen Seite angebracht ist, sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig, ich komme gar nicht damit klar...

Die Ahle des Pioneers ist perfekt zum öffnen vieler Verpackungen, die Schere und das große Messer sind toll. Die Öse stört mich, hätte ich lieber ohne. Ebenso könnte man sich ein Layer sparen, falls man statt des Dosenöffners das Multi-Teil des Compact verwenden würde. Wäre doch mal eine Überlegung wert.

Wie geschrieben, mein liebstes Victorinox, zur absoluten Perfektion fehlt für mich nur noch die Holzsäge, aber vielleicht macht mich Victorinox da ja noch in Zukunft glücklich.
Die 93mm Victorinox haben für mich die perfekte Größe, die Alox Modelle haben eine gewohnt gute Qualität, für mich war die Schere noch das i-Tüpfelchen auf dem Pioneer um es zum super Allrounder für den täglichen Gebrauch zu machen.

Mein liebstes Victorinox

Pioneer X is a welcome addition to the Alox family of Victorinox. The popular Pioneer (based off Victorinox Soldier 1961) has been now been given an additional layer with scissors that collectors and customers had been asking for a long time.

This Swiss Army Knife consists of a 93 mm (3.4 inch) folding knife with a blade length of less than 3" (complying with European knife laws), a pair of scissors, an awl/ punch (missing in the picture shown here), can opener with small flat screwdriver, bottle opener with large flat screwdriver & wire stripper. It has all the essential tools without the fancy ones (like the ever slandered corkscrew of course). It comes with anodised aluminium oxide scales / handles that are thinner than the usual plastic ones on other models, but much more durable and sturdier. It doesn't contain the signature tweezers and toothpick that the plastic handle models carry.

If you are looking for a Swiss Army Knife with lots of functions, this is probably not for you. However, if you have been EDC'ing blades for a considerable time like myself, you will truly appreciate the features this knife offers. Pioneer X comes with a sturdy, straight edge blade that takes an edge quickly a reamer / punch and the standard openers mounted with drivers.

Some of the other reviewers have complained that the scissors are difficult to use / open, but i haven't faced this issue so far. I even trimmed my nails and tried (some complained that you need long nails to open this) and still faced no issue. It is a great pair of scissors - similar to the ones you see on Climber, Huntsman and other models.

The Alox scales are amazing, the tools are stronger, thicker, sturdier and the springs are tighter than the usual models with plastic casing. This entire tool is so much more durable and doesn't weigh more than a standard Climber.

I would have probably liked a combo can/bottle opener tool and a philips screw driver instead of the dedicated can opener to make this the perfect EDC for me, but that's wishful thinking. For now this is a great EDC option in most parts of the world - including European countries like UK with very strict knife laws.

In India, carrying this tool won't raise any eyebrows as it is well within the legal limits prescribed for blades. I would avoid carrying it in Metros, Stadiums etc, where rules are more stringent. And for god's sake never put it in a cabin bag while flying. That has to be the worst way to lose a knife!

Victorinox knives are made from Swedish steel that sharpens very quickly. Mine wasn't sharp out of box, but it took me less than 30 seconds to sharpen the blade using my Lansky. Now it is hair shaving sharp. Suggested sharpening angle 20 degrees or lesser.

I particularly like the reamer / punch which can be a secondary blade, a last ditch self defence weapon (much more effective than the large blade which can cause more harm than good in self defence owing to its belly, lack of guard etc.)

Overall, for the product I will retain a 5 star rating because it deserves nothing less. Victorinox is the world's largest pocket knife manufacturer for the last 100+ years for a reason. Impeccable quality and craftsmanship as always, at considerably affordable prices.

The X Factor!

I have been waiting for this knife for most of my adult life. Why it took Victorinox so long is beyond me.  Same old Victorinox flawless quality. It is a little beefy, but I hang it from a clip suspended from my belt so it hangs vertical instead of clumping at the bottom of the pocket.  This trick works well for all Swiss Army Knives.
  This knife is robust. A step above the 91mm line of knives. However, the scissor is the same excellent one that appears on the 91mm line, with the exception of the nail nick, which is now on the other side. this makes for easier opening. The amazing awl is unique to to the larger Alox knives.  It is an amazing tool. I use it as a utility blade to keep tape glue and scratches and stuff off the main blade. It also makes perfect holes in wood, plastic and aluminum. Great for starting a screw, or sinking a wall anchor in drywall!  Amazing tool! I would buy just the awl and the bottle opener in a small alox tool!  Victorinox are you listening?

Finally an Alox knife with scissors! Compared to a cellidor red scaled Victorinox: The can opener is identical. The bottle opener is slightly beefier, thus giving you a stronger screwdriver. The awl is very rugged and dubbles as an extra heavy-duty blade, but it has no sowing hole. The placing of the awl, is way better than on the center mounted cellidor models. The single blade is slightly thicker i.e stronger, also longer. The scissors are identical to those on the Explorer, with one exception. The nail growe has a new location. (Simply a factory production/assembly sollution I´m told.) This happens to make it suitable for lefthanders. If you are righthanded, simply hold the Swiss-Victorinox logo upside down, and you will quickly get acces to the scissors. The holder of the split ring is not as thick, as on say the Explorer. In a heavy duty Alox modell this is somewhat odd. One scale side, has an engraving-box. Very nice! The knife is about 8 grams heavier than the Farmer Alox and some millimeters thicker. It rides well in your pocket, with some planning. This is a good knife for kids over the age of 11, soldiers, handymen, older people who value simplicity and people who spend most of their time in an urban enviroment. If you are in a rural area you might go with the Farmer Alox. Just a great knife, it won´t let you down, it is rugged and the scissor spring can be orderd easily as a spare part. The spring usualy lasts 10-15 years if you are carefull. Storing the scissors in the "open" position long-term will prolong spring life, if that is a concern to you. The scales in Alox provide an nice tactile experince but keep in mind that they can´t be changed like on a cellidor model. Alox will last you a lifetime.

Il mio primo Alox. Comperato per l'estetica e per le forbici che utilizzo tanto quanto la lama. Il coltello è molto bello, le molle sono robuste, le funzioni sono quelle che servono. Purtroppo con le guancette in alluminio si perdono stuzzicadenti e pinzette. Personalmente uso raramente il punteruolo e preferirei la limetta per le unghie. Avesse anche il cavaturaccioli (impossibile) sarebbe perfetto.
Uniche controindicazioni il peso e la misura leggermente grande per infilarlo in tasca... risolto con l'aggiunta all'anello di una piccola clip. Mi piace molto e sono contento di possederlo ma poi mi metto in tasca il Compact. Motivo per cui ho ordinato un Cadet che però non ha le forbici.
