My mother bought me this knife for a camping trip way back in 1997. It’s been with me ever since. I’ve never wished for more, and the super multi function ones just seem silly after 27 year with this “minimal” one. It is still going strong and the only reason I’m here is because I recently lost the tweezers (I suspect foul play but my daughter claims she is not to blame, haha).

Never needed more

Has the minimum amount of tools one may need on a daily basis. Not very specialized in anything, but very nice to have when you need it.

Depuis des années j’utilise ce modèle de couteau et je l’adore! Les 2 outils tournevis me servent à démonter, ouvrir ou réparer une multitude d’objets… Les 2 lames permettent dans garder une bien affûtée comme un exacto. La pince à sourcils est très utile aussi, surtout pour ma conjointe! ;)
J’en ai commandé un nouveau au cas où je perdrais mon vieux…je ne peux plus m’en passer!

Compact, solide et très utile

I have handled quite a few Swiss army knives from the small 58mm line to the standard 91mm line. To me, he most versatile size for everyday carry is the 84mm line. Within the 84mm line, the Recruit offers the best set of tools of any SAK. The small pen blade will handle 95% of all cutting. My experience has learned not much more is required for most everyday tasks. The pen blade is thus indispensable for me. The larger spear is nice to have for backup or the other 5% of cutting tasks, for example occasional food cutting. The bottle opener and can opener are just nice to have when needed. To me the Recruit is like an old fashioned two bladed pen knife with sime added useful tools. Nothing is ever perfect but when it comes to pocket knives, the Recruit comes very close. High recommended!

All that is needed and nothing that is not

Bought this Recruit to replace one that I already have, which has a broken large blade,( tip broken off ) and the small blade, which is broken off at the base!
It's been a faithful servant for many years, over 20 in fact and was my father's before being mine so has been well used and abused over time.
I've always preferred victorinox SAK as I feel the quality and durability are superior to others I've used in the past.

A compact EDC pocket knife

There are few really good pocket tools one can carry that are as versatile yet as basic as a good Swiss Army knife. My  Recruit is perfect for whatever comes next in my day, yet doesn't get in the way. 
...just wish it had titanium scales! Plastic is SO YESTERDAY!

A real pocket knife

Very good for every day use. It has simple functions and it will be a help in each activity you have!

Simple and quality

Friendlier on the pocket than a Spartan! I’ve bought lots of these. With a Walker and a little magic a Micro Farmer can easily be born ;)

Ce couteau m'accompagne depuis 30 ans. Je l'ai racheté après avoir perdu la version avec tire-bouchon, ce qui me manquait, ou plutôt à ceux qui viennent aux piqueniques avec des bouteilles de vin et sans tire-bouchon. Il fonctionne toujours parfaitement, même si la surface rouge est très râpée. Il semble que l’on puisse la faire remplacer dans la boutique.
Il connaît d’innombrables tiroirs dans les aéroports, ambassades, administrations, organisations internationales et autres lieux surveillés. Mon entourage se moque parfois du fait que je ne sors jamais sans un couteau suisse, mais j’entends souvent: «Kathy, passe-nous ton couteau [pour résoudre un petit problème]!»
Il faut le laver de temps en temps, surtout quand on l’a utilisé pour couper des aliments, les restes de jus de fruits par. ex. peuvent bloquer les éléments, mais rien ce qu’un peu de l’eau tiède savonneuse ne puisse régler. Appliquer de temps en temps une goutte d’huile fine de mécanique de très bonne qualité, et il vous accompagnera des décennies.

You'll use it more than you can imagine. It doesn't matter if you are a gamer or outdoor capmer ... it will help you.

This handy little Swiss Army Knife is the perfect size for disappearing in whatever wardrobe you find yourself in. Yet, you won't be left longing for more, in most cases. Mine is from 1986, an Economy version, and it's still going strong. If you don't need or use the toothpick, tweezers or back side tools, like the reamer, corkscrew or Phillips driver, this little guy is for you. The 84mm size is perfect, one of my favourite sizes. At two slim layers, it can go in you fifth jeans pocket, next to your wallet, a shirt pocket, wherever. Still ready for canned food, loose screws, wiring jobs, food prep, whittling, beverage caps, home and office tasks, outdoor pursuits. You name it, the Recruit is ready to fall in! Can't go wrong, specially considering the price and Victorinox quality. Good for yourself, or that special someone who's ready to meet the world head on, and tackle all its challenges.

All the required basics

i use this knife almost 3 years, and keep going. i never left this little buddy from my pocket,except on aircraft cabin. this tools has ever lost once, but it came back to me after 2 days, my friends found it. this is the perfect tools for everyday standard use. not too thick, not too slim.

En oportunidad de recibir una Climber de regalo, recordé una navaja que hubo en casa por años, traída por mis padres de un viaje en la década de los 80. Al buscar entre un montón de herramientas y trastos, encontré una que ya había visto en estado harto ruinoso y luego de examinarla detenidamente caí en la cuenta que era aquella misma que echaba en falta!
Se trata de una Recruit versión Economy de los ’80, sin anilla ni palillo ni pinza. Como una pieza sola. Bien lavada con agua tibia, verificado que los movimientos estuvieran libres y lubricada adecuadamente, quedó impecable! Como era de esperar. Las cachas bastante ralladas por los años y el logo apenas se ve, pero el funcionamiento perfecto. Con el afilado de las hojas, trabajo completo, una pieza de treinta años en plena vigencia.
La Recruit es uno de mis modelos favoritos; sencilla, sobria y suficientemente pequeña para portar en cualquier ocasión. Al tener el dorso liso, queda muy elegante y apenas se nota mientras que sigue cumpliendo con sus fines.
Ésta se encuentra en situación de retiro por razones sentimentales; no sale de casa pero en ella continúa en servicio activo.

RECRUIT, SENCILLA Y ELEGANTE, PARA TODA OCASIÓN

I look at every knife that interests me from one of two viewpoints: EDC or Dress? This is (for me) one of those perfect EDC knives. Exactly the features I want in an EDC, nothing I don't need. I do consider that the tweezers and toothpick may be possibly handy - someday - but they were not the selling point to me that the four blades were. Large blade, PEN blade (very important to me), can opener with small screwdriver tip (which also works on Phillips screws - big selling point!), and bottle opener with large screwdriver tip and wire stripper. Drop this feather light in your pocket, and you're good to go. First thing I did was remove the split ring, which I won't use, but that's just me. As rugged as anything Victorinox makes, and an astonishing bargain at it's price. There's a reason it's one of their best sellers. And by the way, if you watch Victorinox reviews online, many reviewers pronounce the name wrong. It's vik-TORE-ih-nox, not "VICTORIA-nox", please!

Perfect life compinion! I carry it every day, I love it!!

The Recruit is a great knife, perfect size, everything you need and nothing more! I currently own an Alox Soldier and a Tinker. Both are nice knives but the Recruit is the handiest of all. It is a quality knife at a very affordable price.

Great knife

For a long time i have been looking for a pocket knife for food preparation in the great outdoors and got this one for it.
Its simply perfect, easy to access all tools, easy to maintain and to clean as it only has the tools i need and thanks to its size and thickness i can get a very good grip too.
Its a lovely knife not just for camping, but small and handy anytime and anywhere, fits every pocket.
I just found it a bit hard to open a can with my handyman knife because all the other tools were in my way and it was a lot of cleaning before and after food preparation so i decided for this one.

I have an old version of the Recruit. I keep it for sentimental reasons, but I never carry it. Why not?

Because the Tinker is the same size, and adds two very useful tools: #2 Phillips and the awl. Spend the extra $6 and get the Small Tinker, you won't be sorry.

Good knife, but the Tinker is a better choice

All it needs is a saw, and be able to open a little faster.

Habe mir dieses Messer als täglichen Begleiter zugelegt und bin sehr zufrieden damit!
Es hat fast alles was man im täglichen Gebrauch sucht und ich finde auf Korkendreher, Zange und sonstigen Schnick-Schnack kann man auch verzichten!
Ist wirklich mein Lieblings-Victorinox und kann es jedem empfehlen der ein einfaches Messer für die Hosentasche sucht!
